Winnipeg Multi-Use Complex

The proposed Winnipeg Multi-use Complex is part of a design submission for new ice facilities. WGD Architects with associated architect Verne Reimer Architecture submitted a two-option proposal for the City of Winnipeg. Option one is a 134,000 sq. ft. facility situated at the north end of Sargeant Park. The facility has 3 NHL ice pads with one Olympic sized pad (200x100), 20 change rooms, a pro shop, fitness centre and a restaurant and bar. Spectator seating is primarily on the mezzanine floor accessed from the restaurant and bar area. Option two is located in the southern lot of Grant Park, neighbouring Grant Park High School and Pan Am Pool. A 204,000 sq ft. four-pad arena with 2 indoor soccer fields was proposed. Three different site options were studied to best accommodate site parking, drop off routes and emergency access. Each option share common design elements such as using curtain wall windows at the main entrance to make use of natural light to the open lobby and a large feature stair way to the mezzanine floor. The facility is designed to be accessible to participants and spectators.
