The 45,000 volume, 11,500 sq.ft. library was designed to reflect the summer time atmosphere of the community of Alcona on the shores of Lake Simcoe. The pavilion style structure has a 6 m high central space with a high level clerestory bringing natural light into the centre of the library. The library includes a large meeting room with a separate community entrance as well as a sliding partition which opens the room creating a larger gathering area. A separate multi-purpose room is designed to accommodate computer training classes of 15. The main lounge of the new library overlooks an outdoor reading garden and has a gas fireplace with hardwood flooring.
